5 types of dentures
Researching for 5 types of dentures to see which one is right or you? Read on to learn more about the different kinds of dentures.
Traditional Complete Full Dentures
Designed to replace all of the patient’s teeth, complete dentures sit on top of the gums. These are different from dental bridges, as dental bridges are anchored to existing teeth. This type of denture is typically placed within two to three months after the teeth have been extracted.
Custom Dentures
Custom-fitted and made of more expensive material, custom dentures are made specifically to suit the patient’s smile and preferences. Although more expensive, this type of denture always results to a more natural-looking smile.
Partial Dentures
Designed for patients with remaining teeth, partial dentures consist of a pink-colored base attached to a metal piece. These two pieces hold the denture in place in the mouth. This type of denture is not meant to be worn 24 hours in a day. Patients are usually advised to take out their denture at bedtime and put it back on when they wake up.
Implant Supported Dentures
With this type of denture, a dental implant is surgically inserted into the jawbone to support the denture. These dental implants provide a solid foundation which helps the denture stay securely in place. Aside from the advantage of looking more natural, implant supported dentures are also sturdy and long-lasting.
Snap-in Dentures
When it comes to convenience and stability, snap-in dentures are one of the best choices available. Snap-in dentures are securely held in place with the help of anchors that are surgically inserted into the patient’s jawbone. They can also be snapped into and out of place with the use of attachments embedded into the denture. Snap-in dentures are recommended for patients who do not have any teeth but still have enough bone to support implants.
