Broken or Chipped Tooth: What To Do

Dental injuries are inevitable regardless of the cause. Some people injure their tooth due to sports. Some due to a bad fall, while some just accidentally hit their face onto something. Most of the time, when accidents like this happen, we aren’t nearby a dentist. The most that we can do is temporarily rely on broken tooth home remedy.

However, despite having had broken tooth home remedy, keep in mind that a broken tooth cannot be repaired at home. There are a few band-aid fixes that may serve the purpose for a short time. However, bear in mind that you will have to see your dentist as soon as you can. Some patients may think that going to a dentist after an injury isn’t necessary because nothing bled or hurt. This is a common misconception. In a lot of cases, the tooth may look fine, but that can be deceiving as it only hurts when you bite or chew.

As first aid or to relieve pain, here are some of the things you can do while you’re unable to see your dentist:

  • If the pain is persistent, take an over the counter pain reliever
  • Consider buying dental cement, also over the counter. This temporarily patches the broken/chipped surface.
  • Apply a cold pack to the affected area. Whether it be near the lip or the cheek, doing so will relieve you of pain.
  • Carefully apply pressure to the wounded area using a sterile piece of gauze. Change the sheets of gauze when it has completely soaked in blood.
  • Rinse your mouth with warm water
  • Try to avoid using oral antiseptics as most of them contain alcohol, thus can sting in the mouth.

Still, the best repair for a broken tooth is to visit your dentist immediately. These broken tooth at home remedies will only temporarily relieve you of pain, but may not repair the damage.
